Who in the nebulous nova is Dorian Hawthorne?

Seriously, he wants to know.

The orphaned teen can’t remember squat about his life before waking up on the planet of Erroside as one of many rescued survivors of an attack that ravaged multiple planets and made Erroside the last place humans can call home. If that weren’t strange enough, Dorian also has crazy visions and otherworldly abilities that he can barely keep in check, making him a misfit forced to live in fear of exposure—especially by the Errosidian elite.

When Dorian's secret finally gets out, he's forced to surrender himself in exchange for the safety of the only friends he has left. The results? He’s sent to perform like a pet in Erroside’s floating arena full of bots, bionic beasts, and battle royales, all while trying to figure out the truth about where he came from and the lies that keep everyone clueless about the universe beyond their world.

Fortunately, Dorian’s not alone. He has a squad of misfit friends, like his faithful bunkmate Tripp, the snarky seven-year-old Preeza Beeza, and his blossoming romance Nora, who help him survive the clutches of the half-bionic ruler of Erroside, the Val-Dóm, and the elites who want to keep the truth buried.

When a mysterious source starts leaving letters and signs for Dorian to follow, indicating that they are not alone in the universe, Dorian has to make a choice between playing it safe or seizing on the chance to escape and get his friends away from Erroside, the only place he believes they will be safe. Getting caught could mean imprisonment, death, and the permanent suppression of the truth. But if Dorian and his friends succeed, they might just score their freedom and blow the lid off the mind-blowing reality of their true place in the universe.

Through it all, Dorian hopes to finally discover the answer to a question everyone seems to ask, no matter where he goes in the universe: who is Dorian Hawthorne?
